Day Care Centre
The Ballyphehane Day Centre is run by the Health Services Executive – South. This facility is a very important support to the older person who is still able to live at home but needs to have a link to available services in the community.
Day care allows them to retain their independence without feeling isolated and gives them the opportunity to meet up with others in a similar situation for social activities and interaction.
The main objectives of the day centre are:
- To provide a service such as a mid-day meal, a bath, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chiropody, laundry, and hairdressing
- To promote social contact among the elderly and prevent loneliness.
- To relieve caring relatives, particularly those who have to go to work, of the responsibility of caring for elderly persons during the day.
- To provide social stimulation in a safe environment for elderly people with mild forms of dementia.
